Hallway of Old Private House
Abstract
#376 No Photographer's Stamp Used in article in THE SURVEY, May 6, 1911, entitled, "Factory Introspection, The Shop Survey Carried Out By the Board of Sanitary Control of the Cloak and Suit Trade of New York," by George M. Price, M.D., pp. 219-228. Picture (c) at page 222. Caption: Hallway of an old private house, used as a shop building. It has one toilet for the entire floor. Judging by the stair case, which looks as if it might be circular to the roof, it must once have been an elegant private house. (over) #376 No Photographer's Stamp Written on the back: "Only water facilities for three families on each floor. No tubs - no hot water." Written beneath this is "JB (or is it R?) 21." In the left hand corner the number -38- is stamped. This same number is stamped on #961, a Lewis W. Hine photograph. A footnote on the first page of the article states that all the photographs are by Paul Schuum. However, the photographs on pages 222 and 223 do not look as if they were taken by the same person as the other photographs in the article.
