The two wheel cart in the center of the street is a Sanitation Department cart for collecting refuse. The two boys holding covered trays above their heads (right foreground) are delivering pastries, etc., from bakery to a restaurant or store. In the background at t he top of the street is the faint outline of a skyscraper. It is the tower of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (completed 1908).
