The patient learns how to cover his nose and mouth securely with several thicknesses of tissue when coughing or spitting. He then places these tissues in a paper bag or newspaper bag pinned to the side of his bed or bedside table. Mrs. Balton receives the bag of soiled tissues in clean newspaper.
